Privacy Policy

Last updated: 9 July 2026
The short version: Gearscope runs entirely on your own device. It does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data on our servers — because there are no servers. Your photos and camera serial numbers never leave your computer.

What Gearscope does with your files

When you open or drop a photo into Gearscope (the Mac app or the web check on this site), the file is read locally to extract camera information such as shutter count, serial number, lens and capture date. This processing happens on your own device and in your own browser. The file is never uploaded anywhere.

Data we collect

None. Gearscope has no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking. The app does not require network access to do its job.

Settings stored on your device

The Mac app stores your preferences (such as language and your own check history) locally on your Mac so the app remembers them between launches. This data stays on your device and can be reset at any time from the app's settings.

Third parties

Gearscope does not share data with third parties, because it does not collect any. If you purchase the app through the Mac App Store, Apple's own privacy policy governs that transaction — Gearscope itself receives no personal information from it.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date.
